WATCH: Children escape Durban flat fire




Durban -  Firefighters have extinguished a fire that broke out in a flat in the Point area on Tuesday. 

The flat, on the fifth floor of Boulevard Court building, was well alight when the Durban Fire Department arrived. 

According to a bystander, two children were alone in the flat when it caught it alight. The children had managed to get out of the flat before the fire could spread. 

Neighbours who saw smoke and heard the children's screams alerted emergency services. Several people tried to fight the blaze in the flat prior to the fire departments arrival. 

The Durban fire department arrived on the scene where they contained and extinguished the fire. The building is above Hickorys Pawn shop is situated on the corner of Dr Langalibalele Dube (Winder) Street, Norge Lane and Mahatma Gandhi (Point) Road.
Police from the Point police station is on the scene.
